An extra-large hydrocolloid patch for breakouts that spread wider than a single spot. Each patch has a curved, extra-wide shape and a thin tapered edge, so it can cover a cluster of blemishes or a larger inflamed area along the jaw, chin or cheeks where a small round dot falls short.

The hydrocolloid layer absorbs fluid from the blemish and keeps the area sealed off from fingers, pillowcases and outside dirt, so it can be left undisturbed. That covering also makes a breakout much harder to pick at, which is often the most useful thing a patch can do. Niacinamide is included in the formula, and each pack contains 10 patches, suited to all skin types.

Cleanse the area and pat it completely dry. Peel one patch from the sheet without touching the adhesive side, place it over the affected area and press gently from the centre outward so the tapered edge lies flat.

Leave it on until the patch turns opaque white, then peel it off slowly and replace it with a fresh one if needed. Each patch is single use.

• Apply it before bed. Overnight wear gives the hydrocolloid the longest uninterrupted contact, and the patch stops you from touching the area while you sleep
• Put the patch on bare, dry skin before any toner, serum or cream. Products underneath weaken the adhesion and stop the hydrocolloid from absorbing
