The formula is short, at twelve ingredients. Ethylhexyl Stearate, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, and Triethylhexanoin make up the light ester base that does the dissolving, with Sorbeth-30 Tetraoleate and Sorbitan Sesquioleate handling emulsification once water goes on. Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil and Tocopherol cover conditioning. Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil and Houttuynia Cordata Extract sit at the end of the list, so they read as accents rather than the point of the formula. It emulsifies quickly and rinses without a film.

Dispense two or three pumps onto dry hands and massage over a dry face, concentrating on sunscreen, makeup, and the areas that get oily.

Add a little water and keep massaging until the oil turns evenly milky, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Follow with a water-based cleanser when you are double cleansing.

• Take your time on the emulsification step — adding water gradually until the oil goes fully milky is what stops it leaving a film.
• On nights with no sunscreen, makeup, or heavy skincare, a second cleanse is not always necessary.
